RIETVLEI AND
EMBUZWENI WATER SUPPLY – PHASE 1 AND 2
The Client, the Sisonke District Municipality, appointed
Scientific Roets (PTY) Ltd to design and manage the development
of a water reticulation service in the areas of Rietvlei and
Embuzweni.
PHASE 1- RESERVOIRS, BOREHOLES, A PUMPSTATION AND BULKLINE
Two boreholes will be developed to supply water to the villages
of Rietvlei and Embuzweni. A pumpstation with two positive
displacement pumps as well as a standby generator will be
constructed to pump the water to a new concrete reservoir -
400m3 in size - that will be constructed above the Rietvlei
village. A rising 63-110mm uPVC pipeline will inter-connect the
boreholes, pump station and the 400m3 reservoir. The water will
also gravitate through a 90mm uPVC pipeline to a new 120m3
concrete reservoir to supply Embuzweni village. This project
also includes the construction of air valves, scour valves and
valve chambers.
Progress to date includes the cutting of the platforms for the
reservoirs and pump station and approximately one kilometer of
pipeline trench has been excavated.

PHASE 2- WATER RETICULATION FOR RIETVLEI AND EMBUZWENI
Phase 2 is the water reticulation phase of this water supply
project. It is made up of approximately 13Km of 32- 75mm uPVC
and HDPE reticulation pipelines, 45 standpipes, valve chambers
and fittings.
This phase of the project has passed the tender stage. Tender
adjudication has been done and we are waiting for the
appointment of a contractor in order for the construction stage
to begin.
