Development Services of Scientific Roets

Scientific Roets is involved with the Institutional Development
of large-scale projects where these activities are included
along with Infrastructural Development and Capacity Building
activities. Such Institutional Development is taking place on
projects such as KwaXolo Chickens (where 113 broiler farmers are
involved in the development of a broiler production integration
with an abattoir and processing plant), the Ubuntu Craft Market
(which includes the development of the Ubuntu Craft Market
Infrastructure and Crafting Training), the Nkangala Goat
Production Project (including the development of a central
breeding farm, production farms, an abattoir and Goat Management
Training), the Western Frontier Beef Beneficiation Project
(which will mobilise the red meat resources of the N.W Province
in a provincial integration), and the Business Plan activities
on the Hatchery for Pietermaritzburg, the Point-of-Lay-Pullet
facility for Kokstad and the Cedarville AgriBEE Village.
Scientific Roets (PTY) Ltd first became interested in assisting
with ad-hoc entrepreneurial development in 2006 when it was
chosen to host the local SEDA-EIC (Small Enterprise Development
Agency - Enterprise Information Centre). This Centre served to
identify the need for Small Business Development Services such
as assistance with Business Planning, Tendering and skills
development in business-related topics. The term to host the
SEDA-EIC ended in March 2007, however, Scientific Roets (PTY)
Ltd continued to offer its services to entrepreneurs in the
Kokstad area.
To this effect the Agricultural, Engineering and SMME
Information Centre, now based at the new Scientific Roets
offices at 96 Hope Street in Kokstad, offers a walk-in
information service. Entrepreneurs and farmers are invited to
peruse the information resources on offer (a computerised search
system is available on site and on the Scientific Roets website
at www.scientificroets.com) and to use the quiet and comfortable
Information Centre for self study. The Information Officer, Ms.
Dudu Tenza is always at hand to assist with the retrieval of the
necessary documents.
Furthermore, Scientific Roets has also positioned itself to
deliver on the NQF 2 and NQF 4 New Venture Creation
Qualifications. Basic business-related training such as Project
Management, Tendering, Computer training and Co-operative
Development are provided on request. In November 2007 14
learners were provided tendering training on contract to the
SEDA Kokstad branch. In March 2007 the Ubuntu Crafters were
presented a computer training course, and during September 2007
to February 2008 the Ubuntu Crafters were trained on business
skills and how to develop their co-operative.
These services are offered to various learners either identified
by Scientific Roets directly (after obtaining donor funding) or
as a service provider to donor agencies such as SEDA, SETA’s or
Provincial Departments.
