Proposed Sites

A focussed concentration of the Scientific Roets Goat Initiative on specific sites will allow sufficient density of production to assemble goats at geographically central locations, to ensure economies of scale, so as to ensure effective, sustainable and constant delivery to value-adding operations. Furthermore, a targeted approach clearly identifies the farmers involved so that targeted assistance with relevant infrastructure, land, capacity building, finance and communication can be obtained. Concentration on selected sites will allow co-branding in value-added specialised products in line with market preferences (already determined) that will allow a constant supply to local, national retail and export markets.

Concentration on specific sites ensures an equitable geographical distribution, the right mix of institutional and infrastructure investments, it favours collective institutions (co-operatives) in partnership with public and private sector role-players, and creates adequate access to support services and productive assets.

There are currently 14 Goat Production and Processing projects at various stages of development in South Africa
